About the role
Are you passionate about helping young people succeed and looking to start a rewarding career? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join Jarrow School as an Apprentice Teaching Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to gain workplace experience while working towards a recognised qualification in a supportive school environment. You will work in close collaboration with teaching staff and therapists with individuals and groups of students, providing one-to-one, group and in-class support to improve academic progress and learning. Duties include assisting in planning and carrying out educational activities, preparing materials, supporting record keeping, and supervising students. You will be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting students' self-esteem and progress. The role also involves organising educational visits and undertaking planned supervision of out-of-hours learning activities. You will attend staff meetings, work co-operatively with other staff, and facilitate the integration of students into mainstream lessons. There is an expectation to undertake professional development and on-the-job training. All employees have a responsibility for their own and others' health and safety. The apprenticeship offers a clear pathway for career development within education, with potential permanent employment and opportunities to progress to Higher Level Teaching Assistant status.
Entry requirements
- GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent. Experience of employment or voluntary work relevant to the education and inclusion of young people, and experience of working as part of a team.
