Assistant Teacher Support Apprenticeship

About the role

This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to support children in an educational setting. You will assist a child both in class and on a one-to-one basis, helping them to access learning and make progress. A key aspect of this role is building a strong, positive relationship with the child, providing consistent academic, pastoral, and behavioural support. You will work closely with teachers and SEN staff, fostering the child's independence, supporting their social development, and promoting inclusion within the school environment. The role involves aiding the pupil in learning effectively, clarifying instructions, ensuring they can use equipment, and motivating them. You will also liaise with the class teacher and SENCO regarding individual education plans (IEPs), provide additional nurture, implement behaviour management strategies, and help create supportive resources. Building supportive relationships, promoting the pupil's acceptance and inclusion, and monitoring their response to learning activities are crucial. You will also provide positive encouragement, feedback, and praise to build self-reliance and self-esteem. The apprenticeship includes marking pupils' work under direction, supporting social skills development, and assisting with ICT in learning activities. Regular feedback on the pupil's learning and behaviour to the teacher/SENCO is expected, including feedback on the effectiveness of adopted behaviour strategies. This role requires systematic observation of pupils to gather evidence of their knowledge.

Entry requirements

• GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above. Organisation skills, communication skills, team working.
