About the role

This apprenticeship offers a comprehensive 5-year development program within Transport for London's (TfL) London Underground Rail Engineering Workshops. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in various specialized engineering sections and departments, including electrical, electronic, mechanical, and the Train Modification Unit, primarily based in West London (Acton). The program is designed to equip apprentices with a broad range of skills and knowledge essential for a successful career in rail engineering. Year 1 involves block release at college in the Enfield area, interspersed with safety training and workshop familiarization. Year 2 continues with college block release and placements. The remainder of the apprenticeship focuses on a placement plan managed by an Apprenticeship Development Manager, ensuring maximum exposure to necessary skills and knowledge in Acton. Upon successful completion, apprentices can progress to roles like Electrical/Mechanical Fitter, with potential for further career development and advancement within TfL, including to senior management positions.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum of 2 GCSE's Grade A* - C or Grade 4 and above, including Maths (or equivalents). Must be 18 years old by 7th September 2026. Not eligible if currently holding or undertaking the same Apprenticeship Standard.
