About the role

This Telecommunications Engineering Degree Apprenticeship with Transport for London (TfL) offers a comprehensive 4-year program focused on the design, acceptance, and maintenance of critical communications systems across the TfL network. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience with both legacy and modern communication technologies, playing a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of London's transport system. The program involves up to 6-9 placement rotations covering areas such as operational communications system upgrades, project delivery, engineering assurance, incident investigations, wireless systems, SCADA, CCTV, radio, and cyber security. Apprentices will work on major capital delivery projects and gain practical skills in a dynamic and essential sector. Upon completion, successful apprentices can progress into roles designing and implementing new communication systems within TfL.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs Grade 4 (C) and above including Maths and English Language (or equivalent) plus 3 A Levels at grades BBB (or equivalent) which must include Maths and/or Physical Sciences. Equivalent level 3 qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma DDM, EAL Technical Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (D), or Access to HE qualifications with specific merit/distinction requirements are also accepted. Candidates must be 18 years old before the start date and not hold or be working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject.
