About the role

This is a workshop-based Joinery Apprenticeship where you will learn to work with wood on bespoke projects. Duties include ensuring health and safety, understanding drawings, measuring and marking out, cutting and shaping wood, using hand and power tools, operating industrial machinery, producing wood components to specification, and finishing wood products. You will also gain experience in assembling components based on drawings and creating bespoke projects such as doors, windows, staircases, and furniture for both domestic and commercial clients. The role involves consulting with architects, contractors, and designers, and producing products for use in various institutions like universities and hospitals. You will need to be able to travel to the workshop and be comfortable around large, loud machinery. Full-time employment is a possibility upon successful completion of the apprenticeship for the right candidate.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above. Desired skills include attention to detail, problem-solving, numerical skills, analytical skills, logical thinking, initiative, patience, and practical ability.
