About the role

The RAC, in partnership with North Humberside Motor Trades Group Training Association (Motor Trades GTA), offers a unique Apprenticeship Programme for aspiring roadside patrols and mobile mechanics. This role involves attending real-life breakdown situations and performing mobile mechanic services, going beyond traditional mechanic training. Apprentices will provide roadside assistance, conduct diagnostics, and carry out repairs, while effectively communicating with members. Services, repairs, and diagnostics will also be performed at customers' homes or workplaces, providing diverse experiences. Apprentices will be provided with a fully equipped, state-of-the-art company vehicle and a complete tool kit. The programme includes a comprehensive induction, followed by a rota typically involving 4 weeks of roadside work, with 1 week of college at Motor Trades GTA in Hull (HU4 7DY) every 4-5 weeks. Upon qualification, graduates will have varied workdays, ongoing support, and career progression opportunities within a large national company.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths grade 4 or above (or equivalent), strong communication, attention to detail, organisation, customer care, problem-solving, analytical, and logical skills. Initiative, patience, and physical fitness are also required.
