About the role

Embark on a 4-year apprenticeship with Transport for London (TfL) in the Signals department of the London Underground. This Level 3 apprenticeship, titled 'Rail engineering technician / Skills England', will equip you with essential skills to maintain and inspect track, signalling, control, and information systems across the vast London Underground network. You'll contribute to a vital 24/7 service, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of one of the world's busiest metro systems. The training involves college-based learning for fundamental engineering skills, followed by hands-on experience with skilled signals teams across all underground lines. This includes essential night work placements to gain comprehensive exposure. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and advanced signalling courses, you will qualify as a Technical Officer and have the opportunity to interview for a permanent role, with further support to gain professional licenses, including IRSE membership.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs A*-C/ grade 4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English language. Must be 18 by 7 September 2026. Not eligible if currently undertaking the same Apprenticeship Standard.
