About the role

This apprenticeship with the Royal Navy focuses on Weapon Engineering, specifically as a Maritime Mechanical & Electrical Mechanic. You will be responsible for the safety of your crewmates, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing complex communications, sensors, and weapon systems to ensure their operational readiness. This involves working with sophisticated electronic equipment under the guidance of an Engineer Officer and conducting daily checks to keep the ship operational. The role demands strong problem-solving skills and the ability to find innovative solutions. Upon completion, you will be a qualified Weapon Engineering Able Rate, with opportunities for further training and promotion based on merit, potentially leading to a Commissioned Officer role.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE Math and English: GCSE Level C/4 (Desired). No other formal qualifications required, but candidates must pass a Recruit Test and meet health and fitness standards. Strong communication, IT, attention to detail, organisation, problem-solving, administrative, number, analytical, logical, creative skills, initiative, and patience are desirable.
