About the role
This apprenticeship offers a Level 2 qualification as a Veterinary Care Assistant, providing essential support to veterinary surgeons and nurses. Responsibilities include assisting with animal care, maintaining clinical hygiene, and supporting practice operations. Duties involve assisting with examinations and procedures, providing daily care for patients (feeding, exercising, cleaning), preparing and cleaning consult rooms and kennels, and undertaking some reception tasks like answering phones and booking appointments. The role also requires monitoring animals for changes in condition, assisting with patient preparation for procedures, handling animals calmly and safely, maintaining records, organizing supplies, and adhering to health and safety and animal welfare policies. Effective communication with clients and collaboration within the veterinary team are key aspects of this role. The apprenticeship is a full-time commitment over approximately 1 year and 2 months, with one day of college learning at The College of Animal Welfare Leeds and the remaining time spent working at Paws & Co Group.
