About the role

The apprenticeship in dental nursing is a 12-month government-funded course by City & Guilds, a Level 3 Extended Diploma. Alongside your learning, your job role within the practice will entail assisting dentists, sterilising & preparing equipment, reception duties and supporting patient experience. Duties include providing efficient and reliable chair-side support, reception tasks, dealing with patient queries, taking payments, booking appointments, sterilising and preparing equipment, recording patient records, supporting patients' well-being and dental experience, cleaning dental areas, and managing stock. With experience, you may progress to team manager, team leader, or dental practice manager. Further training could lead to roles like dental therapist, dental hygienist, or orthodontic therapist. A DBS check and Hepatitis B vaccination are required.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above. Strong communication, organisation, customer care, problem-solving, administrative, and teamwork skills are desired, along with patience and a non-judgemental attitude.
