About the role

The apprenticeship in dental nursing is an 18-month government-funded course by City & Guilds, a Level 3 Extended Diploma. Alongside your learning, your job role within the practice will entail assisting dentists, sterilising & preparing equipment, reception duties and supporting patient experience.

Duties include providing chair-side support, reception duties, dealing with patient queries, taking payments, booking appointments, sterilising equipment, recording patient records, supporting patient wellbeing, cleaning dental areas, and managing stock. The training provided is a level 3 advanced apprenticeship accredited by City & Guilds, delivered nationwide through blended E-Learning. Upon achievement, the apprentice will be awarded a Diploma in Dental Nursing Level 3 and Functional Skills English and maths level 2 qualifications unless already exempt. With experience and further training, career progression opportunities include team manager, dental practice manager, dental therapist, dental hygienist, or orthodontic therapist.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above. Communication skills, attention to detail, organisation skills, customer care skills, problem-solving skills, administrative skills, team working, and patience are also required. GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4) desirable. Other relevant qualifications and industry experience are welcome.
