About the role

This is an apprenticeship opportunity at The Priory Primary School, offered by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you will gain valuable work experience and qualifications while supporting pupils with a range of needs, including those with complex and profound multiple learning difficulties. Your duties will involve facilitating pupil development, supporting learning across the curriculum, assisting with personal care, and liaising with parents and school staff. You will also help maintain school policies and procedures, prepare rooms and equipment, and support with play and lunchtime duties. The role involves supporting teachers in delivering pre-planned work, assessing pupil progress, and preparing curriculum materials. A key aspect of the role is promoting high standards of behaviour, supporting the school's ethos, and maintaining a safe environment. The apprenticeship includes support from experienced colleagues, a workplace mentor, and a dedicated mentor from the Council's Apprenticeships team. Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Check. Annual leave must be taken outside of term time.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English Language A*-C/9-4 or L2 equivalent, GCSE Maths A*-C/9-4 or L2 equivalent. Essential skills include communication, IT, attention to detail, organisation, problem-solving, presentation, numeracy, teamwork, creativity, patience, motivation, professionalism, maturity, flexibility, and a willingness to learn.
