About the role

An exciting opportunity to join J A Mounfield & Son Ltd, a well-established family butcher with an on-site abattoir. This apprenticeship offers hands-on experience across the full meat production process, from preparation to finished product. You will develop specialist butchery skills in a busy and supportive team environment. Duties include assisting in the butchery and abattoir, supporting the preparation and production of high-quality meat products, learning cutting, trimming, and portioning techniques, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety. You will also engage with customers and support sales, weigh and prepare ingredients accurately, and work across different areas of the business to gain varied experience. The role involves early starts and weekend work in a fast-paced, physical environment. Upon completion, a full-time position may be available with opportunities for progression onto further qualifications.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 3/D or above. Communication skills, attention to detail, customer care skills, logical thinking, teamwork, initiative, and physical fitness are essential.
