About the role

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to work at one of the UK's largest bird of prey centres, home to over 200 birds. The role involves learning the art of falconry, including handling, training, and flying various bird species. You will also be involved in the day-to-day husbandry of the centre, preparing for and delivering flying displays, educational talks, and visitor experience days. The position requires a full, clean driving license, strong teamwork abilities, punctuality, enthusiasm, confidence, and a keen interest in birds of prey. No prior experience is necessary as full training will be provided. This is a physically demanding but rewarding career, requiring dedication in all weather conditions. Successful candidates will work towards a Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant qualification, with on-site mentoring and a combination of online and in-person training sessions with Haddon Training.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above. Strong communication, attention to detail, organizational, customer care, problem-solving, presentation, and teamwork skills are essential. Patience, initiative, and physical fitness are also required.
