About the role

Start your career in molecular diagnostics as an Apprentice Technical Assistant at QIAGEN Manchester. Gain experience in DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and next-generation sequencing while contributing to R&D projects. You’ll also complete a degree apprenticeship at Manchester Metropolitan University, with full training and support.

Duties include carrying out practical elements of studies such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR setup, NGS library preparation, sequencing, precision serial dilutions, and handling biological samples. You will also conduct general maintenance and lab safety activities, support the planning and execution of laboratory work, accurately record experiments, and adhere to COSHH and Health & Safety requirements. You will work as part of the product development team to ensure a safe and efficient laboratory environment. Your degree apprenticeship can open the door to a range of careers in science, with opportunities to progress into Associate Scientist or Scientist roles, or specialise in an area of science that interests you.

Entry requirements

  • GCSEs in English (A*-C / 9-4) and meet MMU entry requirements (minimum 104 UCAS points (BCC) or equivalent). Strong communication, IT, attention to detail, organisation, problem-solving, presentation, analytical, and teamwork skills are essential.
