About the role
AWE is offering a Level 5 Technician Scientist (Chemistry) Apprenticeship. This 36-month apprenticeship, plus a 3-month End Point Assessment, provides hands-on laboratory experience in real working environments. Apprentices will support research, testing, analysis, product design, and more within specialist science and engineering teams. The role emphasizes practical science skills, safety awareness, attention to detail, and teamwork. Upon completion, apprentices can progress into laboratory technician roles within Warhead and Deterrence Materials Science or Warhead Engineering. The apprenticeship operates on a 9-day working fortnight, with the apprenticeship based onsite at AWE Aldermaston and/or Burghfield.
Entry requirements
- Maths and English at grade 4/C or above, plus at least 3 A Levels at grade C or above including A Level Chemistry and another science or Maths A Level, or a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Applied Science or a related subject. Applicants must be British Nationals and aged 18 or over by 31 August 2027. Willingness to obtain and maintain security clearance.
