About the role
Embark on a fulfilling career as a Technician Scientist (Chemistry) Apprentice at AWE PLC. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in laboratory settings at the Atomic Weapons Establishment, Aldermaston and Burghfield sites. You will be involved in crucial areas such as Warhead and Deterrence Materials Science, supporting research and analysis of various materials, or Warhead Engineering, contributing to product design, prototyping, and systems integration. This role is vital for AWE's mission of ensuring national safety and security. You will develop essential skills in laboratory safety, handling hazardous substances, quality standards, customer service, equipment use, sample preparation and analysis, data handling, and reporting. Beyond technical skills, you will also benefit from personal development activities like team-building and health and safety workshops. Upon completion, you can progress into a laboratory technician role, contributing to national nuclear security.
Entry requirements
- GCSE Maths and English: 4/C or above (Essential), A Level x 3 inc Chemistry and another science or maths: C or above (Essential), BTEC Applied Science or related (BTEC or A level only): C or above (Desired), Communication skills, IT skills, Attention to detail, Organisation skills, Administrative skills, Analytical skills, Logical, Team working, Health and Safety Awareness
