The application process. Without the guesswork.

Every employer has its own process

You may complete some of these stages in a different order. The vacancy and your invitations tell you what applies to you. Explore what each stage involves, how students can prepare and how parents can help.

Online application

Follow the application link in the vacancy. This is where you share your qualifications, experience and reasons for applying. Upload a CV, cover letter or portfolio only if the employer asks for one.

Online assessments

An invitation may take you to online tests. They help an employer understand your reasoning, judgement or usual working style. Read the instructions and deadline, use any official sample questions, and complete the tests independently.

Telephone interview

Some employers arrange a phone call to learn about your interest in the role and check important details. Others skip this stage. Prepare a quiet space and practise explaining your interest with a real example.

Video interview

Your invitation should tell you whether you record answers or join a live conversation. Recorded answers are reviewed later, while a live interviewer can ask follow-up questions. Check the format, camera, microphone and joining instructions beforehand.

Assessment centre

An assessment centre is a set of activities, not necessarily a physical place. It can happen online or in person, with individual tasks and sometimes other candidates. Your invitation confirms which exercises you have and what to prepare.
