About the role

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Clinical Genomics department at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in Sutton. This role involves rotating through various laboratories, providing essential technical and administrative support for cancer genomic testing. Duties include specimen reception, data entry, supporting training and quality activities, and equipment maintenance. The apprentice will work accurately and diligently within defined protocols, often with minimal supervision. Key responsibilities in Central Reception include sample collection, data entry, sample prioritization and distribution. In the labs, duties extend to specimen processing, packaging samples for external testing, and assisting scientists. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are crucial. This apprenticeship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to a vital diagnostic service within a leading cancer center.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or 4+, and A Level Biology (or another relevant Science subject) at grade C or above. IT, attention to detail, organisation, problem-solving, administrative, analytical, and logical skills are also essential.
