About the role

This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to learn the operations of an NHS GP practice. You will gain hands-on experience in administrative tasks such as handling post, scanning documents, managing correspondence, and registering new patients. The role involves shadowing front-desk and telephone teams, observing patient interactions, and learning care navigation.

During the initial months, the focus will be on supervised administrative duties and observation. As you progress, you will be gradually introduced to routine outgoing calls, followed by supported incoming calls and reception work under direct supervision. This includes practicing essential skills like identity checks, active listening, clear communication, explaining services, and accurate message recording.

Upon demonstrating competence through training and assessment, you will undertake a wider range of telephone, front-desk, and administrative tasks. This includes assisting with appointment systems, handling service queries, teamwork, and problem-solving. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will learn to respond sensitively to patients, manage expectations, seek assistance when needed, and contribute to service improvement projects. It is crucial to understand that you will not provide clinical advice or make independent clinical decisions.
