About the role

The apprenticeship in dental nursing is an 18-month government- funded course by City & Guilds, a Level 3 Extended Diploma. Alongside your learning, your job role within the practice will entail assisting dentists, sterilising & preparing equipment, reception duties, and supporting patient experience. Day-to-day duties may include welcoming patients, handling basic patient enquiries, preparing surgeries, sterilising instruments, assisting clinicians during treatments, updating patient records, supporting patients' comfort, monitoring stock, maintaining clean clinical areas, upholding patient privacy, and collaborating with the team to deliver high-quality care. A career in dental nursing offers progression into roles such as Senior Dental Nurse, Lead Nurse, Treatment Coordinator, Practice Manager, Dental Hygienist, Dental Therapist, or Orthodontic Therapist.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above. Other desirable skills include administrative, analytical, attention to detail, customer care, initiative, IT, logical thinking, patience, presentation, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
