About the role

This is an apprenticeship opportunity for an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer at J G PEARS (NEWARK) LIMITED. The role involves working as part of a small team to carry out proactive/planned mechanical maintenance, fault finding/reactive breakdown mechanical repairs, and mechanical projects and outage works. The apprenticeship is for 4 years and will lead to a Level 3 qualification. The apprentice will work towards their Apprenticeship Standard in the Engineering Fitter Level 3 and will attend Lincoln College one day per week on a day release basis. The company is a leading processor of animal by-products and food waste, with a focus on environmentally-aware practices. Strict health and safety measures are in place. The apprentice will need to have their own transport. Progression opportunities include becoming a Qualified Mechanical Engineer at the CHP plant.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths: A*/9 – C/4 (Essential), GCSE Science: A*/9 – C/4 (Essential), Level 2 qualification Engineering-based subject: A*/9 – C/4 (Desired). Strong communication, IT, attention to detail, organisation, problem-solving, numerical, analytical, and logical skills are also required, along with initiative, patience, and physical fitness.
