About the role
An apprentice role supporting the design of bespoke chandeliers and luxury lighting using SolidWorks. Working with experienced designers and craftspeople, you will produce 3D models and technical drawings while developing specialist skills in lighting design, engineering and manufacture.
Madson Black is seeking an Apprentice SolidWorks Designer to develop bespoke chandeliers, decorative lighting and architectural metalwork. A good basic knowledge of SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies and drawings, is essential. Working with experienced designers and craftspeople, you will develop 3D models and manufacturing drawings while learning engineering, materials, production, 3D printing and traditional craftsmanship.
This is a highly technical, IT-driven role involving long periods working at a computer using SolidWorks. Candidates should enjoy detailed, precise work, problem-solving and continual learning, while also being comfortable working closely with our workshop and manufacturing teams. This apprenticeship offers excellent long-term career prospects within Madson Black. The successful candidate can progress from Apprentice Designer to Designer and Senior Designer, taking increasing responsibility for complete projects. Future opportunities may include design management, project leadership or specialist technical roles as the company continues to grow in the UK and internationally.
Entry requirements
- GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade 4-9 (C-A*). Desired: GCSEs in Design & Technology, Engineering, Physics, or Art at Grade 4-9 (C-A*). Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD software is a plus. Essential soft skills include communication, IT proficiency, attention to detail, organization, customer care, problem-solving, administrative skills, logic, teamwork, creativity, initiative, and patience.
