About the role

The apprenticeship in dental nursing is a 12-month government-funded course by City & Guilds, a Level 3 Extended Diploma. Alongside your learning, your job role within the practice will entail assisting dentists, sterilising & preparing equipment, reception duties and supporting patient experience. Duties include providing efficient and reliable chair-side support, handling reception tasks, dealing with patient queries, taking payments, booking appointments, sterilising equipment, recording patient records, supporting patient wellbeing, cleaning dental areas, and managing stock. Successful candidates will need to pass a DBS check and receive a Hepatitis B vaccine. With experience, career progression can lead to roles such as team manager or dental practice manager, or further training can lead to becoming a dental therapist, dental hygienist, or orthodontic therapist.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above. Strong communication, organisation, customer care, problem-solving, administrative, and teamwork skills are desired, along with patience and a non-judgemental attitude towards patient care.
